Reliance Power’s wholly-owned subsidiary, Reliance NU Energies, has emerged as the top winner in a competitive tender issued by SJVN for the development of ISTS-connected solar and battery energy storage systems (BESS). The company secured 350 MW of solar capacity paired with 175 MW/700 MWh of BESS—making it one of the largest integrated projects of its kind. The project was awarded at a discovered tariff of ₹3.33/kWh, fixed for 25 years. It requires a minimum four-hour daily discharge to ensure reliable peak-hour power supply to state distribution companies. The project will follow a build-own-operate model, in line with Ministry of Power guidelines.
Jindal India Renewable Energy (JIRE), the renewable energy arm of the BC Jindal Group, also won a significant share in the tender. JIRE was awarded a 300 MW solar-plus-storage project, which includes up to 600 MW/2,400 MWh of BESS, at a tariff of ₹3.32/kWh. Under the contract, JIRE must install a minimum of 0.5 MW/2 MWh of energy storage for each MW of solar capacity. The project must be completed within 24 months from the signing of the power purchase agreement (PPA).
This tender, part of SJVN’s broader plan to add 1,200 MW of solar and 600 MW/2,400 MWh of BESS, attracted strong industry participation, with 19 companies bidding and 18 qualifying for the reverse e-auction.
