Thane Depot Gears Up for Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train!

The National High-Speed Rail Corporation (NHSRCL), overseeing the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project, has officially awarded the construction contract for the design of the Thane rolling stock depot to the joint venture company Dineshchandra-DMRC. The letter of acceptance has been issued, marking a significant milestone in the development of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Corridor.

This construction project encompasses a comprehensive scope of work, including civil works, inspection sheds, maintenance depot construction, and the installation, testing, and commissioning of maintenance facilities. As part of the high-speed corridor initiative, three rolling stock depots are planned to be established in key locations—Sabarmati and Surat in Gujarat, and Thane in Maharashtra. The Thane depot, spanning approximately 55 hectares, will host facilities for the light maintenance of train sets.

In addition to Thane, the Sabarmati rolling stock depot, the largest among the three, covering about 83 hectares, has already commenced construction under the supervision of the Sojiz-L&T consortium since January 5, 2023. This expansive facility will feature inspection bays, a washing plant, workshops, sheds, and stabling lines to accommodate both light and heavy maintenance activities.

Simultaneously, work is progressing on the Surat depot, which occupies around 40 hectares. This facility is designed to initially receive train sets from Japan and will provide essential facilities for their commissioning.

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Corridor continues to advance with these strategic developments, reinforcing its commitment to modern and efficient rail transportation in the region.
