On August 27, 2024, Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy announced plans for the construction of a new building for Osmania Hospital in Hyderabad. The new facility will be developed at the Police Stadium and Police Sports Complex site in Goshamahal, spanning 32 acres. This strategic move aims to enhance the hospital’s capacity and infrastructure, providing a modern healthcare facility for the region.
The Chief Minister has directed the police department to transfer the land to the Health department, which will oversee the development of the new hospital. The new facility will be equipped with all necessary departments, and plans include the construction of academic blocks and a hostel for nursing staff on the premises. These additions are designed to support both the hospital’s operational needs and its role as a center for medical education and training.
Efforts will be made to preserve the existing heritage buildings of the original Osmania Hospital, ensuring that the new development respects the historical significance of the site. Additionally, the Chief Minister emphasized the importance of improving road connectivity around the new hospital to facilitate better access and transport links on all sides of the facility.
In exchange for the land in Goshamahal, the Chief Minister has instructed officials to provide alternate land to the police department. This arrangement will ensure that the police department’s operational needs are met while enabling the development of the new healthcare infrastructure.
The new Osmania Hospital is set to become a cornerstone of healthcare in Hyderabad, addressing growing needs and improving medical services in the city. This project reflects a commitment to advancing public health facilities and integrating modern amenities with historical preservation.
