Vande Bharat Gets Battery Boost: Alstom to Mfg in India

France-headquartered Alstom is set to manufacture large batteries for railway traction components in India within the next year. These batteries are designed to power various railway systems, including Vande Bharat trains and metro rails. This initiative follows extensive technology testing across several European countries.

Alstom plans to localize battery production at its Maneja facility in Gujarat, already operational in manufacturing rail components. This move aligns with the company's strategy to gradually develop indigenous battery cells in India, reinforcing local manufacturing capabilities.

The new battery technology aims to provide auxiliary power to diesel and electric railway powertrains during power supply failures, enhancing the reliability and efficiency of India's railway systems. This development is expected to significantly bolster the country's railway infrastructure.

Alstom's commitment to India is evident from its recent activities, including a €98 million contract to supply metro coaches for Chennai and a major order for Delhi Metro Phase IV (Alstom) (Alstom). These projects highlight Alstom's growing presence and investment in the Indian market, fostering advancements in public transportation.

With the upcoming battery production, Alstom continues to demonstrate its dedication to innovation and sustainable solutions, supporting India's ambitious transportation goals and contributing to the nation's technological progress in the railway sector.
