Rajesh Power Services (RPSL) has secured a 65 MW/130 MWh standalone battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Gujarat, marking its entry into the utility-scale battery storage segment. The company received a letter of intent (LoI) for the project from Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam.
The project, to be developed at Virpore in Gujarat, was awarded through a tariff-based competitive bidding process and will receive viability gap funding (VGF) support from the Power System Development Fund (PSDF). It is scheduled for completion within 18 months of signing the battery energy storage purchase agreement (BESPA). Once operational, the system will be capable of delivering 65 MW of power for up to two hours, helping utilities manage peak demand, enhance grid stability and facilitate renewable energy integration.
The project forms part of Gujarat’s broader plan to develop 2,000 MW / 4,000 MWh of battery storage capacity. Standalone battery storage projects are gaining momentum across India as power utilities look to address renewable energy intermittency and strengthen grid performance during peak demand periods.
