Odisha Bridge & Construction Corporation (OBCC) has unveiled a comprehensive three-tier corridor project aimed at easing traffic congestion along the busy Jaydev Vihar–Nandankanan Road in Bhubaneswar.
Stretching 13.2 km, the corridor will feature three levels: the ground level dedicated to public transport, a four-lane elevated section for general vehicular traffic, and a top tier reserved for the proposed Metro rail line. The project also includes 4.626 km of slip roads and strategically placed flyovers at key intersections like XIMB Square and Kalinga Hospital Square. The entire development will be constructed along a 60-meter-wide right of way between Pal Heights and Barang Square.
State Works Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan confirmed government approval, stating, “Construction of the elevated corridor from Jaydev Vihar to Nandankanan, extending to Barang Junction, will begin shortly. Technical work has been completed, and the tendering process is underway.” The corridor forms a core part of Bhubaneswar’s larger Metro project, which proposes 20 elevated stations along this route and a metro depot at Phulapokhari—ensuring seamless integration of road and rail infrastructure.
The project aims to resolve chronic issues such as traffic congestion, lane indiscipline, and chaotic traffic flow. It will include modern infrastructure elements such as intelligent bridge lighting, advanced road signage, and safety systems, all in accordance with Indian Road Congress (IRC) standards. OBCC has invited bids from qualified firms for project execution.
