CSL's Dry Dock Project, costing Rs. 1,799 crores, would build a cutting-edge ship-repair facility at Mangalavanam, Ernakulam, Kerala. India's biggest dry dock, 310m x 75/60m x 13m, can dock boats up to 70,000 tons. The dock can build rigs, nautical equipment, and repair longer boats due to its tiered form. This facility will boost CSL's ship-repair capacity and marine self-reliance with two 150-tonne cranes and innovative technology.
This project will provide ship-repair, engineering, and related jobs, boosting the region's economy. Kochi becomes a renowned ship-repair center, drawing local and international vessels, investments, and commercial prospects. Dry docks save Indian shipping firms time and money by reducing their dependency on foreign shipyards, boosting Kerala's economy via income and infrastructure.
Additionally, this project highlights CSL's technical capabilities in shipbuilding and repair, assuring successful operation and long-term regional advantages. A Willingdon Island International Ship Repair Facility (ISRF) would complement the dry dock and strengthen Kochi's marine center status. This project shows CSL's dedication to innovation, information exchange, and India's maritime sector with a 100-year design life.
As on January, 2024. Project building has begun. 60% of the project is done. The project will finish in March 2025.
