GAIL-CIL Joint Venture: Coal to SNG in Eastern India.

GAIL India and Coal India have established a joint venture (JV) named Coal Gas India to develop a coal-to-synthetic natural gas (SNG) project in the Eastern Coalfields. The newly incorporated entity operates as a subsidiary of Coal India.

The JV has an authorized share capital of ₹11 crore and an initial paid-up capital of ₹1 lakh.

Its primary objective is to develop and expand the infrastructure needed to convert coal into synthetic natural gas (SNG) while aligning production with market demand. Key activities include captive coal mining, coal beneficiation, coal imports, equipment procurement, and setting up necessary processing facilities.

Coal India holds a 51% stake, while GAIL owns 49% in the joint venture.
