SCR Completes Double Line with Electrification on Guntur-Guntakal Route

South Central Railway recently completed the commissioning of a Double Line between Munumaka-Satulur, covering a distance of 16.6 kilometers, as part of the Guntur-Guntakal doubling & electrification project. Initially sanctioned in the fiscal year 2016-17, this extensive project spans 401 kilometers, estimating a total cost of Rs. 3887 Crores.

Key Project Details:

The newly commissioned section primarily falls within the Palnadu district of Andhra Pradesh. The successful doubling of this stretch now provides an uninterrupted double-line facility alongside electrification, covering 176 kilometers between Guntur and Jaggambotla Krishnapuram.

The Guntur-Guntakal Section serves as a crucial rail link connecting Guntur city in Andhra Pradesh with the Rayalaseema region and extends further south. This route traverses through Guntur, Prakasham, Palnadu, Nandyal, and Kurnool Districts, catering to the hinterland areas.

Overview of the Project:

The primary objective behind the Guntur-Guntakal Doubling & Electrification project, sanctioned in 2016-17, aims to facilitate seamless transportation and alleviate congestion along this crucial rail corridor. Covering a distance of 401 kilometers, the estimated project cost stands at Rs. 3887 Crores.

Significant progress has been made in different phases of the project:

Completed and commissioned segments include Nallapadu-Satulur (32 kms), Munumaka-Jaggambotla Krihsnapuram (122 Km), Betamcherla-Malkapuram (23 Kms), and Dhone-Guntakal (68 Kms), totaling 245 Kms.
The recent addition of the 16-kilometer stretch between Munumaka-Satulur brings the total completed and commissioned sections to approximately 261 kilometers of doubled tracks with electrification.
The ongoing advancements in the remaining sections of the project are rapidly progressing towards completion. The successful doubling and electrification not only alleviate congestion but also contribute to increasing the average train speeds along this route.

Impact and Future Prospects:

The completion of these vital infrastructure enhancements is expected to bring about several benefits, including the potential introduction of new train services along this route. Additionally, it will facilitate more efficient train operations from the Rayalaseema region of Southern Andhra Pradesh towards Eastern parts of the country such as Visakhapatnam, Calcutta, and beyond.
