NTPC: ₹55,920 Cr for 11.8 GW Power Boost

NTPC has announced a capital expenditure plan of ₹55,920 crore at the Group level for FY26, reflecting a 25.3% increase over the ₹44,636 crore allocated in FY25.

This investment will support the addition of 11,806 MW in new capacity. Of this, 7,226 MW will be from renewable energy sources—primarily through its subsidiary, NTPC Green Energy. The remaining capacity includes 3,580 MW from thermal and 1,000 MW from hydroelectric sources. On a standalone basis, NTPC’s capex is projected at around ₹26,000 crore.

As of March 31, 2025, NTPC’s total operational capacity stood at 79,930 MW, with the energy mix comprising 78% coal, 8% solar, 8% gas, 5% hydro, and 1% wind. An additional 33,750 MW is under construction, with a mix of 50% coal, 28% solar, 15% wind, and 7% hydro.

NTPC is also aligning with India’s long-term clean energy vision, including the national goal of achieving 30 GW of nuclear power by 2047. Its joint venture with NPCIL, Anushakti Vidhyut Nigam (ASHVINI), is executing the 2,800 MW Mahi Banswara Atomic Power Project. Meanwhile, NTPC’s newly formed subsidiary, NTPC Parmanu Urja Nigam, is focused on advanced nuclear technologies and has identified 28 potential project sites across the country.
