Adani's Power Play: Rs 25,000 Crore Project to Bring 2,400 MW to Bihar

Adani Power has received a Letter of Intent (LoI) from the Bihar State Power Generation Company Limited (BSPGCL) to develop a 2,400 MW greenfield coal-based thermal power plant in Bhagalpur district, with a total estimated investment of Rs 25,000 crore (approximately USD 3 billion).

The company emerged as the lowest bidder in a competitive tender, quoting a final power supply tariff of Rs 6.075 per kWh. The project will follow the Design, Build, Finance, Own, and Operate (DBFOO) model and be executed as a 3x800 MW ultra-supercritical power station.

The first unit is slated for commissioning within 48 months of the appointed date, with full project completion targeted within 60 months. Power generated will be supplied to North and South Bihar Power Distribution Companies (NBPDCL and SBPDCL).

Coal supply will be secured under the Government of India’s SHAKTI policy, ensuring long-term fuel availability. The project is expected to generate approximately 10,000–12,000 jobs during construction and create around 3,000 operational roles upon commissioning.

This project further reinforces Adani Power’s position as India’s largest private thermal power producer, with an existing portfolio of 18,110 MW of operational capacity.
