Wings Over Kalyan Karnataka: A New Aviation Era Begins

Karnataka is exploring plans to establish a new airport in the Kalyan Karnataka region to improve connectivity for the districts of Ballari, Koppala, and Vijayanagara, Infrastructure Development Minister M. B. Patil said recently.

Responding to a starred question in the Legislative Council, Patil stated that the final location for the proposed airport will be decided after consultations with the Chief Minister and public representatives from all three districts.

The proposal to develop an airport in Ballari dates back to 2010, when the state acquired 900 acres of land and awarded the project to Chennai-based M/s Marg Sri Krishnadevaraya Airport Private Limited. However, the project has seen limited progress over the past decade.

Patil noted that the initiative is intended to strengthen regional connectivity and drive economic development in Kalyan Karnataka, a region that has historically lacked adequate air transport infrastructure.
