Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently announced that four bridges over the Brahmaputra River are currently under construction, with the much-anticipated Guwahati–North Guwahati bridge nearing completion.

The bridge is expected to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in February. In addition, Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to lay the foundation stone for the 32-km Kaziranga Elevated Corridor on 17 or 18 January. Valued at ₹6,957 crore, the project is designed to enhance wildlife-friendly connectivity and boost tourism in the region.

Chief Minister Sarma also highlighted the approval of a twin-tube underwater tunnel connecting Gohpur and Numaligarh, a road-cum-rail project estimated at ₹22,000 crore, which will improve access between the two areas.

Other upcoming infrastructure developments include an elevated corridor near Guwahati airport, a 68-acre Aerocity, and a modern hospital at Guwahati Medical College, backed by a ₹2,200 crore investment from the Asian Development Bank. Energy projects, including the 120 MW Kopili hydroelectric project, are also expected to be inaugurated in the near future.
