AMNS India Targets $25$ Million Tonne Steel Leap by 2030

ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AMNS India) has announced an ambitious expansion roadmap to scale up its steelmaking capacity to 25–26 million tonnes by 2030, according to CEO Dilip Oommen.

AMNS India, a 60:40 joint venture between ArcelorMittal and Japan’s Nippon Steel, currently operates with a capacity of about 9 million tonnes per annum (MTPA). The company plans to ramp up production at its Hazira plant near Surat, Gujarat, to 15 MTPA by next year, with a further expansion to 18 MTPA in subsequent phases. In parallel, AMNS India is developing a greenfield steel plant at Rajayyapeta in Andhra Pradesh, designed to add 8.2 MTPA of capacity.

“By 2030, we will have at least 25–26 million tonnes. It could be slightly more or less. It’s simple math: Hazira plus Rajayyapeta,” Oommen said. The planned expansion is expected to strengthen AMNS India’s position as a leading steel producer in the country.
