Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) has marked a major achievement with the successful launch of India’s first multi-span, double-lane modular bridge, completed in record time.
The 280-foot-long steel bridge (2x140 ft) was installed at KM 72.625 on the Phobrang–Marshimik-La Hot-Spring Road in Ladakh, a remote and strategically important location. Despite extreme weather, high altitude, and logistical challenges, the project was completed in just 20 days.
Featuring a 7.5-meter-wide carriageway for two-way traffic, the bridge meets Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) standards. It is designed to withstand 100 MT (wheeled) and 70 MT (tracked) loads under the IRC 70R Load Class. Built with high-tensile Grade E-410 steel and fully galvanized for enhanced durability, the modular bridge supports the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative and is engineered for rapid deployment in difficult terrain—typically within 30–45 days.
The bridge was officially handed over to Project Himank of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) on 10 July 2025. GRSE has delivered over 5,900 modular bridges across India and abroad, significantly strengthening critical infrastructure and international defence partnerships.
