Mahindra’s Next Move: A New Greenfield Plant on the Horizon

Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) plans to finalise the location of its proposed greenfield manufacturing plant within the next six months as part of its strategy to expand production capacity and meet rising demand.

The company is evaluating multiple sites across various states and is open to setting up the new facility outside its existing manufacturing clusters, enabled by improved road infrastructure and faster logistics. Rajesh Jejurikar, Executive Director and CEO of M&M’s Automotive and Farm Equipment Sectors, said, “We have to close this in the next six months,” underscoring the urgency of the decision.

The proposed plant forms part of M&M’s broader capacity expansion plan to support growing demand for its vehicle portfolio, particularly SUVs and upcoming electric models.

The expansion comes on the back of strong growth in the domestic passenger vehicle market. Mahindra has moved from fourth to second position, with vehicle registrations rising to 5.81 lakh units in 2025, up from 4.90 lakh units in 2024.
