SAIL to Expand Gua Iron Ore Mine, Seeking Bids for 10 MT Project

The Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has invited bids for the expansion of its Gua iron ore mines in Jharkhand, targeting a total capacity of 10 million tonnes (MT).

The project involves increasing mining capacity to 9.5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA), screening capacity to 12.5 MTPA, and loading capacity to 10 MTPA. The expansion will be executed under the Mine Developer and Operator (MDO) model.

The scope includes end-to-end mine development and operations—ranging from overburden removal and ore excavation to crushing, screening, transportation, and loading. The selected MDO will manage all activities based on performance-linked metrics.

This initiative is a key part of SAIL’s strategy to boost raw material self-sufficiency and improve capacity utilization across its integrated steel plants, especially in eastern India.
