The 24X7 water supply project in Hubballi-Dharwad, Karnataka, is now expected to be fully operational by March 2027, extending the original timeline by 15 months.
Key components, including the new water treatment plant (WTP), raw and clear water trunk mains, and storage tanks, are nearing completion. However, the laying of the 1,688 km clear water distribution network for household connections has faced delays, with only about 55% completed—resulting in roughly 30% progress toward the target of 1.2 lakh household connections. Delays have been caused by Covid-19 disruptions, land acquisition challenges, road infrastructure changes, and the replacement of 300 km of pipelines.
Electromechanical work is ongoing at the 43 MLD WTP in Amminbhavi, and land acquisition for completing the clear water trunk mains from Amminbhavi to Rayapur is in progress, expected to conclude within a few months. Meanwhile, intermittent wards are projected to receive water once every three days by March next year.
Currently, 13 wards enjoy 24X7 water supply, 25 wards receive daily supply, and 44 wards have intermittent supply ranging from once every three to seven days. The Karnataka Urban Infrastructure Development and Finance Corporation (KUIDFC), overseeing implementation by L&T, has requested government approval for the extended deadline to ensure full commissioning.
