Tapping Into Progress: The Kupwara Water Infrastructure Review

The House Committee of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, chaired by Hassnain Masoodi, conducted an inspection of Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) projects in Kupwara district on December 16, 2025, to review the implementation and progress of drinking water supply schemes.

The inspection team comprised local MLAs, Mission officials, engineers, and other concerned officers. During the visit, the committee reviewed the Gulgam Tangwari Water Supply Scheme, completed at a cost of ₹799.60 lakh, which now provides potable water to 671 households across three panchayats. The Hatmulla–Bubernag scheme was also assessed and found to have achieved 74 per cent physical progress against an approved cost of ₹521.12 lakh. In addition, the committee inspected the Regional Water Supply Scheme at Wayne, Kupwara, with a capacity of five lakh gallons, along with other schemes in Nutnussa and Watayen to assess functionality and service coverage.

Emphasising the purpose of the inspections, Chairman Masoodi said, “The objective of these inspections is to ensure transparency, quality execution, and effective delivery of drinking water under the Jal Jeevan Mission,” and directed the concerned departments to promptly address bottlenecks and maintain high implementation standards.
