JSW Energy is set to commission its 5 GWh battery assembly plant in Pune, Maharashtra, in the third quarter of FY26, strengthening its battery energy storage systems (BESS) capabilities and fulfilling domestic content requirements.
The development complements the company’s green hydrogen project at Vijayanagar, with a capacity of 3,800 tonnes per annum (TPA), which is nearing the completion of trial runs and is expected to be commissioned shortly. JSW Energy currently has a locked-in storage capacity of 29.4 GWh, with 25.2 GWh already under storage agreements.
Looking ahead, JSW Energy plans to expand its generation capacity to 30 GW and total storage to 40 GWh by 2030, positioning itself as a key player in India’s renewable energy and energy storage sectors while advancing the nation’s clean energy transition initiatives.
