Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (PGCIL) has been declared the successful bidder under tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) for the development of the “Inter-Regional (NR-WR) Transmission System Strengthening” project.
The project will be implemented on a Build, Own, Operate, and Transfer (BOOT) basis and is designed to decongest the heavily loaded 765 kV Vindhyachal–Varanasi double circuit line. PGCIL received the Letter of Intent (LoI) on 16 September 2025.
Key components of the project include:
Establishment of a new 765 kV substation at Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh
Development of 765 kV double circuit transmission lines spanning Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh
The initiative is a critical step towards strengthening the inter-regional power transmission network between the Northern Region (NR) and Western Region (WR). It will enhance grid stability, support higher power transfer capacity, and enable a more resilient national electricity infrastructure.
Leveraging its proven track record in large-scale transmission infrastructure, POWERGRID is expected to play a pivotal role in ensuring timely and efficient execution of this strategic project.
