Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Maha Metro have begun joint inspections along the proposed Vanaz–Chandni Chowk Metro extension corridor to review the viaduct alignment, station locations, entry and exit points, and the design of a planned double-decker flyover at the Kothrud depot.
Civic officials said more inspections are expected in the coming days as authorities work to finalise project details and minimise disruptions during construction. Maha Metro has already initiated the process of appointing an agency to execute the work.
The 1.4-km extension will feature two stations—Kothrud depot and Chandni Chowk—providing direct Metro connectivity to Chandni Chowk, one of the city’s key entry points. PMC has also asked Maha Metro to ensure adequate space for footpaths and road carriageways, considering the heavy traffic on the stretch, and to share details of barricade placements at critical locations during construction.
“We have asked Maha Metro to clearly mark station entry and exit points and provide a tentative timeline for the project,” a PMC official said.
As part of the project, Maha Metro will simultaneously construct a double-decker flyover for vehicular traffic at the Kothrud depot along with the Metro viaduct to help ease congestion on the busy corridor. A pedestrian overbridge is also planned at the Chandni Chowk Metro station to connect commuters with the Katraj–Dehu Road bypass and improve accessibility.
Residents have urged authorities to ensure convenient access to both the Metro station and the bypass. “We expect a bridge that will allow easy access for commuters on both sides of the Katraj–Dehu Road bypass,” a local resident said.
