In a major step toward enhancing regional connectivity and easing traffic congestion, the Prayagraj–Mirzapur National Highway is being upgraded to a four-lane road. The Public Works Department (PWD), under the National Highway division, has begun groundwork and survey operations to improve travel between these two important cities in Uttar Pradesh.
The initiative follows instructions from Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, who directed officials to resolve ongoing traffic challenges on the existing two-lane route. As part of the central government’s infrastructure focus for the new financial year, the expansion aims to improve road safety and streamline travel along the 86-kilometre stretch.
Survey work began shortly after Holi, initially targeting a 50-kilometre segment between Leprosy Mission Square and Manda in Prayagraj. Four expert teams have been assigned to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR), with particular attention to land acquisition. Simultaneously, the National Highway division in Mirzapur is managing surveys for the remaining section up to the city.
Assistant Engineer Vishal Seth confirmed that the DPR will take approximately three months to complete. Once ready, it will be submitted to the Ministry for approval and implementation.
This long-awaited upgrade promises smoother travel, fewer traffic bottlenecks, and enhanced safety—meeting a long-standing demand of local residents and daily commuters.
