The 89th meeting of the Network Planning Group (NPG) reviewed eight key infrastructure projects in the Road, Railway, and Metro sectors under the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan. These projects aim to enhance multimodal connectivity, reduce travel time, and improve logistics efficiency.
In the road sector, four projects were assessed:
- Upgrading the Darugiri-Dalu highway (136.11 km) in Meghalaya to a two-lane road, boosting regional and cross-border trade.
- Constructing India’s first four-lane underwater tunnel beneath the Brahmaputra, reducing travel time from 6.5 hours to just 30 minutes.
- Widening the Kaliabor-Numaligarh highway (85.67 km) with wildlife-friendly features near Kaziranga National Park.
- Developing a two-lane highway from Mayjilar to Jaisalmer (138.177 km) to support tourism and defense movement.
In the railway sector, three projects were evaluated:
- A third and fourth rail line expansion (32.46 km) on the Badlapur-Karjat route to ease congestion.
- A fourth railway line (15.99 km) between Nergundi and Cuttack, featuring a flyover to improve freight movement.
- Doubling the Haridaspur-Paradip railway line (74.09 km) to facilitate coal transportation and industrial growth in Odisha.
Additionally, the Rajkot Metro Rail Project (41.11 km) was reviewed to promote sustainable urban transport in Gujarat.
