NTPC and MAHAPREIT Join Forces for 10 GW of Renewable Energy

NTPC Green Energy (NGEL), a subsidiary of NTPC, has entered into a partnership with Mahatma Phule Renewable Energy and Infrastructure Technology (MAHAPREIT) to form a new joint venture, NTPC-MAHAPREIT Green Energy. This venture will be focused on establishing and operating renewable energy parks across India.

Formalized on 08 April 2025, the joint venture will be structured with NGEL holding a 74 percent stake and MAHAPREIT owning 26 percent. The newly established company will prioritize the development of Ultra Mega Renewable Energy Power Parks (UMREPPs) alongside solar, wind, and hybrid energy projects, including those with energy storage capabilities. The target capacity for these projects is up to 10 GW.

While the initial focus will be on Maharashtra, the joint venture’s scope also allows for expansion into other states across India.

The partnership has received approval from the Ministry of Power, following endorsement from the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM) and NITI Aayog. This collaboration represents a significant advancement in India’s renewable energy efforts, contributing to the country’s national objectives to increase green energy capacity and reduce carbon emissions.

The joint venture will be responsible for the planning, development, operation, and maintenance of renewable energy infrastructure, aligning with India’s broader strategy for sustainable growth and energy security.
