UDAN Takes Flight in Arunachal with New Donyi Polo Terminal

Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu inaugurated the new terminal building at Donyi Polo Airport, Hollongi, Arunachal Pradesh, on 04 September 2025, reaffirming the Centre’s commitment to enhancing air connectivity across the northeastern region.

The new terminal significantly upgrades capacity—from just 150 passengers at the former temporary facility to handling up to 15 lakh passengers annually, with a pre-covered capacity of 800 passengers. This development is part of broader efforts under the UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik) scheme, which has been extended for another 10 years, with a renewed focus on heliports in Arunachal Pradesh, other northeastern states, hilly terrains, and aspirational districts.

Starting 17 September, IndiGo will launch daily flights from Itanagar to Delhi, complementing existing services to Guwahati, Kolkata, and Tezu. Infrastructure at other regional airports, including Pasighat, Tezu, and Ziro, is also set for expansion.

Several passenger-focused amenities were introduced during the inauguration, including the UDAN Yatri Café, a library service, AVASAR stalls supporting women’s self-help groups, and a kids’ store. Plans are in place to further enhance the terminal with free Wi-Fi, device charging stations, and co-working spaces, promoting a more modern and accessible travel experience.
