The T3 Terminal at Chennai International Airport, part of the Rs 2,500 crore Phase-II expansion and modernisation project, is now expected to be completed by June 2026, slightly delayed from its original target of December 2025.
M Rajakishore, who assumed charge as Airport Director of the Airports Authority of India (AAI) Chennai confirmed the revised timeline. Phase-II aims to expand the airport's capacity to 35 million passengers annually, adding key infrastructure like more check-in and immigration counters, security systems with automatic tray returns, and additional baggage belts.
Under Phase-I, the Integrated Terminal Building has already increased capacity from 23 MPPA to 30 MPPA and has been operational since July 2023. Speaking on “Yatri Sewa Diwas,” the Airport Director emphasised conducting a SWOT analysis of the airport and incorporating passenger feedback for continuous improvement.
