The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has formally requested the Ghaziabad district administration to allocate nine hectares of land for the expansion of the civil terminal at Hindon Airport, Sikandarpur.
Currently spanning 22,050 sq. meters (2 hectares), the terminal is operating at full capacity, handling over 5,000 passengers daily across 50 flights that connect 25 cities. Highlighting the need for expansion, Civil Airport Director Umesh Yadav said:
"An expansion plan is under discussion at the highest levels within AAI. For now, we’ve asked district officials to provide additional land to accommodate growing demand."
Operational since October 2019, the terminal serves passengers from Ghaziabad, Gautam Budh Nagar, Delhi, and western Uttar Pradesh, offering connectivity to cities such as Kolkata, Chennai, Goa, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Jammu, Varanasi, and Patna.
With only two aircraft parking bays, the airport frequently experiences delays due to congestion. Ghaziabad MP Atul Garg, who also chairs the Airport Advisory Committee, emphasized that expansion will include additional parking bays, and noted that he had previously urged AAI to optimize flight scheduling to ease operational strain.
