Haldia Dock Complex to Host Floating LNG Terminal in Landmark Deal

Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata (SMPK) has awarded a 30-year licence for land and waterfront use at the Haldia Dock Complex to a consortium of Invenire Petrodyne and Excelerate Global Operations for the development of a floating LNG terminal.

The allotment includes 10 acres of land and 15 acres of waterfront to establish a Floating Storage Regasification Unit (FSRU) or Floating Storage Unit, alongside a 1.5 MMTPA land-based regasification facility, with scalability up to 3 MMTPA based on demand.

Awarded through a competitive bidding process, the consortium committed to an upfront rent of ₹24.4 crore plus land royalty. The terminal’s first phase is slated for commissioning in H2 2027, leveraging the GAIL gas pipeline to Haldia, expected to be operational by March 2026.

This project is poised to support eastern India’s energy transition, supplying industries, power plants, and city gas distributors with cleaner fuel alternatives.
